An estimated 1 billion birds die every year colliding with windows.
Have you ever encountered a situation where you were confused, agitated, irritated, or annoyed? We’ve all been there, especially with regard to pest birds. This new section seeks to acknowledge these ‘ruffled feathers’ moments and share how WGC has worked with customers to help them ‘unruffle’.
This month’s ‘ruffled feathers’ moment comes from Carlie Stogis (right), who is the General Manager – Industrial Property Management at Jones Lang Lasalle (JLL).
“Wild Goose Chase has been my go-to for bird problems for many years. In the past they’ve helped me with geese, but this time it was swallows. The issue we brought to them in Elgin was unique and they had the solution!” explained Carlie Stogis.
Problem: Swallows Nesting in Industrial Building Entrance
Carlie reached out to WGC regarding growing complaints at the main entrances of a group of industrial buildings located in Elgin, IL. Her tenants were reporting excessive bird droppings along the building wall and on the concrete near the main entrances. What started as one or two nests quickly ballooned into multiple, all in incredibly hard-to-reach areas near the building’s main entrance. Swallows can also become aggressive and swoop down at people walking below the nests.
Solution: BirdSlide
Upon assessing JLL’s sites and major problem areas WGC installed BirdSlide as a bird exclusion method. This solution completely closed off the corners where the exterior walls meet the roof above. These corners are where swallows like to latch on to the tiny ledges or cracks and build their nests, causing bird droppings below and on the side of the building. Since installing BirdSlide nesting swallows are no longer a problem for Carlie and these Elgin properties she manages.
